Tell us about what your morning routine looks like, and how you like to end your day?
I’m very much a morning person, whether it’s a working day or a day off. My day starts early with a cup of coffee, which gives me a moment of calm before I embark on the 30+ minute drive to the restaurant. During the drive, I mentally plan my day, ensuring everything runs smoothly at Tikka.
At the end of the day, I cherish spending quality time with my family. The restaurant keeps me busy, so those moments with my loved ones are precious and help me recharge.
Do you have any awards or achievements you’d like to mention?
While I prefer staying behind the scenes, I’m incredibly proud of Tikka Indian Cuisine being named the second-best restaurant in Yelp’s “Top 100 Places to Eat in Florida” in 2023. This recognition is a testament to our hardworking team and our dedication to delivering authentic and memorable dining experiences.
Do you have a favorite chef that you look up to and what advice would you give to aspiring chefs?
Chef Gaggan Anand has always been an inspiration. His ability to reimagine Indian cuisine while staying true to its roots is remarkable. To aspiring chefs, I’d say: respect the foundation of your cuisine, but don’t be afraid to innovate and try new things.
Cooking is more than a skill—it’s about spreading joy and telling stories through flavors. Always cook with passion, and never stop learning.
What do you typically cook at home for yourself or your family?
When I cook at home, it’s usually for my two daughters Alexis and Jillian, and their favorite dish is my traditional Indian style chicken curry. It’s heartwarming to see them enjoy a dish that carries so much of our culture and family tradition.
What’s a food trend that you’re loving right now and why?
I’m drawn to the trend of hyper local ingredients in global cuisine. Incorporating locally sourced, fresh ingredients into traditional recipes not only supports sustainability but also adds a creative and personal twist. It’s a way for chefs to tell unique stories and connect with their community through food.
What’s that strangest food combination you’ve ever tried? And, did you like it?
One of the most unusual combinations I’ve tried is mango with chili powder and lime. It’s a flavor explosion—sweet, spicy, and tangy all at once. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it and found it quite addictive!
What cocktail or beverage do you enjoy most?
I’m not much of an alcohol person. My go-to drink is pure coconut water. It’s refreshing, hydrating, and reminds me of the tropical flavors of home.
Have you ever cooked for a celebrity? Do you have a story to tell?
Not yet! But every guest at Tikka is treated like a star. Our focus is always on delivering a stellar dining experience, no matter who you are.
