MEET THE OWNERS: Daniel and Cyndie Goss of Point B in Knoxville, Tennessee
We sat down with Daniel and Cyndie Goss of Point B in Knoxville, Tennessee. Point B focuses on local and seasonal inspirations for food dishes, craft cocktails, and refreshing mocktails.
1. Tell us about what your morning routine looks like, and how you like to end your day?
Well, as of late, we have a newborn. So, I spend my early mornings with him. The rest of the family gets up and we help his big sis get ready for school.
I try to do a morning exercise and then drink some co?ee while getting caught up on emails and see what urgent items may take the place of my to-do list that I try to make the night before.
2. Does your restaurant have any awards or achievements that you’d like to share?
We have won a couple of local awards, as well as some great second places: Best Wine Selection, Best Appetizers, Second Place Top Chef Knoxville, Best Dessert, Best Patio, Best Owner, and Best Server.
3. What inspired you to get into the restaurant business?
I started working in restaurants when I was in high school. Much of that reason was because of the flexible schedule and the cash money I could make as a busser. I joined the Navy, briefly, and when I got out I went to college to major in engineering. While in college I resumed work in restaurants because of the flexibility of the schedule and the money I could make. After spending more time in the industry, I fell in love with it.
I like the challenges. I like the people. I like all of it. I like that we make things better. Your birthday? We celebrate. Your anniversary? We celebrate. Lost your job? We are here. Breakup? Funeral? Birth? Engagement? Whatever the case, people come to restaurants to either forget their problems, vent about their problems or celebrate their victories; even if it’s just to end your hunger, we are there. It’s an amazing thing!
4. What do you typically enjoy eating at home for yourself or your family?
I’m a breakfast person. Soft scrambled eggs, fresh cut avocado, and some toasted sour dough bread with a little olive oil on it. That’s a great meal for myself. For the family, we love to grill out. And, this can be anything from some nice vegetables to pork or even seafood.
5. What’s a food trend that you’re loving right now and why?
People are looking towards healthier and more local items. This is fantastic. It helps local economies and fuels the body with healthier items.
6. What’s the strangest food combination you’ve ever tried? And, did you like it?
Cajun coated beetles and vanilla ice cream. It was crunchy. It was salty. It was sweet. It was a little spicy. It was amazing.
7. Have you ever entertained a celebrity in your restaurant? Do you have a story to tell?
We have had several local celebrities (athletes, media, politicians, etc.) come through our establishment. We recently had Leanne Morgan (comedian, actress and author) come into our restaurant. In other restaurants that I’ve been partnered with we had everyone from Ron White to Ron Jeremy to David Copperfield amongst many others come through.
David Copperfield was probably the most memorable, as after he finished his meal he actually walked around to various tables and performed different magic tricks. It was really cool. My current restaurant has only been open a couple of years. We are growing and becoming more well known. Celebrities will find us.

9. What cocktail or beverage do you enjoy most?
Boulevardier. I love the complexity of well-made whiskey, and when you pair that with some amazing aromas and flavors from an amaro and vermouth—amazing.

We are a smaller restaurant that has an amazing team that loves to curate an experience for you. Our chefs work hard creating unique and fun dishes to take you on a culinary (and flavor) journey. Our bartenders craft cocktails using quality ingredients and in house made elixirs to elevate your classic cocktails as well as produce unique and fun beverages.
