First Look: The Cloud One Hotel & Residences Wynwood Brings a Mural-Wrapped Hotel to Miami's Arts District

Germany's design-minded hotel brand is building its first ground-up U.S. property in Wynwood — 214 rooms inside an eight-story canvas painted by the team behind Wynwood Walls, topped with a rooftop pool, bar and spa.

In a neighborhood where every wall is a canvas, it was only a matter of time before a hotel decided to become one. The Cloud One Hotel & Residences Wynwood is rising at 2215 NW 1st Place as an eight-story building whose entire exterior is wrapped in murals curated by Goldman Global Arts — the same team behind the Wynwood Walls, the open-air museum that turned this former warehouse district into one of the most photographed blocks in Miami.

Behind the art is a hotel brand most American travelers haven’t met yet. The Cloud One Hotels is the upscale lifestyle label of Munich-based Motel One Group, which built a following across Europe for city hotels that pair sharp design with central locations. After arriving in Manhattan with The Cloud One New York-Downtown, the brand chose Wynwood for its first ground-up hotel in the United States.

214 Rooms, Built for a Neighborhood That Never Sits Still

The hotel will hold 214 guest rooms across the building’s middle floors, with a private collection of 85 loft residences above and a shared rooftop crowning it all. The Cloud One Hotels has a reputation in Europe for rooms that feel considered rather than cookie-cutter — layered textures, art-driven details and smart, compact comfort — and Wynwood’s gallery-hopping, late-dining crowd is exactly the traveler that approach was made for.

Architecture comes from HWKN Architecture and ODP Architecture & Design, whose design blends clean, modern lines with European precision — a deliberately calm frame for the riot of color on the facade. At street level, a hotel lobby and retail spaces open onto the block, pulling Wynwood’s sidewalk energy straight inside.

The Rooftop Is the Main Event

Head up and the plans get even more Miami. The roof is laid out as a full resort level: a pool with shaded cabanas and daybeds, food and beverage service poolside, and sweeping views across the city toward the coast. An indoor-outdoor restaurant and a bar pouring craft cocktails and wine are positioned for golden hour, when the low Wynwood skyline turns pink and the murals below start to glow.

Wellness has a place up there too: a serviced fitness center beside an open-air terrace, a spa with a steam room and sauna, and a dedicated deck for sunrise yoga and stretching. For a hotel in the middle of Miami’s most energetic district, it is a welcome counterweight — somewhere to reset between gallery openings and dinner reservations.

Why Wynwood, and Why Now

Wynwood has spent the past decade evolving from a street-art pilgrimage into a full-fledged neighborhood of restaurants, breweries, boutiques and creative offices. Its location is a big part of the appeal: minutes from the Design District, connected to Midtown and Edgewater, and just across the bay from the beaches and nightlife covered in our guide to 5 reasons to visit Miami Beach. A design-led hotel at this scale gives visitors a reason to base themselves here rather than simply passing through.

A quick note on timing: The Cloud One Hotel & Residences Wynwood is still in development, with opening currently targeted for around 2028, and plans for any project at this stage can evolve before the doors open. For now, it is one of the most interesting hotels on Miami’s horizon — and one worth bookmarking for a future trip.
