More than half of global travelers want to travel more sustainably in 2023, and with 80% of travel and tourism highly dependent on nature, there is a desire to stay at hotels and resorts with meaningful sustainability initiatives.

From sustainable water sourcing and preserving natural wildlife and environments in Mexico to reducing food waste and offering biodegradable products in Wyoming—Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts around the world have implemented operational practices as well as guest offerings that provide a luxurious experience while upholding the sustainability standards integral to each location.

At Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, Punta Mita, connection to nature is rooted in its thoughtful conception, which began with the rehabilitation of the land on which it resides. The development team has built around the existing trees to preserve the peninsula’s lush vegetation and has placed the tents into the existing environment to minimize destruction.

While select trees were relocated or salvaged for elements throughout the resort’s design. Sustainable water sourcing: Naviva partnered with SOURCE Water to bottle all drinking water onsite using hydro panel technology that extracts clean, pollutant-free water.

Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo is committed to preservation of the natural landscape and celebrating Mexico’s rich heritage. Just 2% of the surrounding 3,000-acre private nature reserve is being developed, allowing the resort to immerse guests in the natural world.

Preserving the culture of the area:the Resort has formed alliances with Ensamble Artesano and Taller Maya to protect pre-Hispanic culture and support Mexican artisans.

At Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, guests and employees join forces to preserve and protect the planet by engaging in sustainable practices on the property, including a single-stream, commingled recycling, and a opt-in program for refreshed linens.

Chefs to End Hunger: The hotel’s culinary team participates in a program which donates excess food to agencies around Los Angeles to serve meals to people in need. Employees engage in a variety of volunteer opportunities, such as clean-up days at the beach and serving food at the local soup Kitchen, Midnight Mission.

Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole is committed to help support and sustain the local environment by reducing food waste, using sustainable beauty products in The Spa and offering solutions to disposable products. Jenny Lake Renewal Project: The resort is a contributor to the program, which works to restore the national park. Compost collection program: The property has partnered with Haderlie Farms, placing green bins in the kitchen areas of the property where the food waste is then used for compost.

Plastic-Free: The resort provides guests sustainable water boxes and has converted all cutlery and cups to biodegradable products. In The Spa: sustainable products from Rawceuticals and Alpyn Beauty, both industry leaders in green initiatives, are available.

Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is committed to taking care of the beautiful city by reducing the hotel’s environmental impact. Green initiatives are implemented all around the property, including: Guest rooms products including guest slippers, room key cards and laundry bags are made of sustainable materials.

Plastic free materials: biodegradable straws, compostable carry-out packaging is and plastic-free menus are used in the restaurant, while all food waste is sent to recycling centers to be converted into livestock feed. Energy conservation: LED technology and automated efficiency programming is implemented for unoccupied rooms.

Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire has undertaken significant energy efficiency measures, leaving a positive impact on the local community, and has a local biodiversity program in place, including efforts to preserve the wildlife on the entire 500-acre estate.

Energy efficiency: The hotel runs on 100% renewable, carbon emissions-free electricity supply and has built-in systems that are energy-efficient. Locally sourced: The onsite restaurants and bars use locally sourced items for the menu, including fruit from an onsite 220-tree orchard.

Four Seasons Resort, The Nam Hai features a sustainable coffee and tea program, Ethical Cup and partners with select suppliers that source their resources ethically for the collection of coffee and tea that are offered onsite. The property sources the coffee beans from only Rainforest Alliance certified farms which help preserve biodiversity by avoiding environmental destruction.

The ethical cup beverage menu assures coffee and tea lovers make responsible choices from farm to cup to bring goodness to the body and the environment.
