First Look: Sibbjäns, Gotland Island
A Regenerative Farm Stay on Gotland with Handcrafted Suites, Hyper-Seasonal Dining and Viking Wellness
Sibbjäns, a regenerative farm stay set on the windswept landscape of Sweden’s Gotland island, transforms a former horse farm into a sustainable retreat. Guests sleep in thoughtfully handcrafted suites, enjoy hyper-seasonal farm-to-table dining and take part in bespoke “Viking wellness” rituals rooted in local traditions.
Sibbjäns is accessible from Stockholm by a short flight to Visby, Gotland’s medieval port city, followed by a scenic drive across the island. Alternatively, travelers can reach Gotland by ferry, arriving ready to explore the island before checking in at the farm.

Gotland’s dramatic limestone terrain invites active exploration. Wide, open farmlands and quiet country lanes are perfect for cycling and horseback riding, while the island’s consistently windy shores make it a premier kitesurfing destination. The various buildings were constructed using traditional methods, much of the work done by hand with the help of Erik, a local Master of Gotlandic Craft Heritage.

A 22-room boutique retreat set amid meadows of wildflowers, this hotel is a celebration of the Baltic Sea island’s seasonal rhythms and raw coastal beauty. Accommodations are housed in two distinctive buildings—the Farmhouse Hotel and The Bunkhouse—each suite named for influential women from the founders’ families and circle of friends. Interiors combine textured sheepskin throws, limewashed walls, and a muted, natural color palette with carefully chosen contemporary art, creating a serene, modern-rustic atmosphere that mirrors the island’s landscape.

At the heart of Sibbjäns is a working farm, home to hens, Mangalitza pigs and sheep. The lead gardener oversees meadows, vegetable beds and fruit-growing plots, with produce grown on-site and harvested seasonally. The kitchen pauses when the land rests, creating what the founders describe as a true farm-to-table approach.

Wellness is inspired by Nordic traditions and the physicality of outdoor life, including a hand-built yoga barn, wood-fired sauna, outdoor gym, cold-water swimming and tennis courts. This as “Viking wellness.” Elemental, grounding, and quietly transformative.
