Inside the New Delta One: How Delta Reinvented Business Class, One Detail at a Time

A Wagyu burger at 38,000 feet, a wine list from a Master Sommelier, Blanton’s bourbon, Missoni amenity kits — and a next-generation suite on the way. Delta rebuilt its flagship cabin from the tray table up.

For years, the phrase “airline food” has been a punchline. Delta would like to change that — and with its fully reimagined Delta One experience, the airline has rebuilt its flagship business-class cabin almost from scratch, detail by detail. The result is one of the most ambitious premium-travel overhauls a U.S. carrier has attempted in years: a new culinary program, a sommelier-curated wine list, a first-of-its-kind bourbon partnership, Missoni-designed amenity kits, custom tableware, and a reinvented approach to in-flight service — with an all-new suite waiting in the wings. For anyone who flies internationally up front, it is worth understanding what has actually changed.

The rollout began on transoceanic Delta One routes out of Los Angeles and is expanding across the network, part of a broader premium transformation that stretches from the lounge to the seat to the plate. The guiding idea, Delta says, was not novelty for its own sake but perfecting the things travelers already love — grounded in more than a year of customer research and the input of its own people. Here is how the new Delta One comes together.

The food: classics, redefined

At the heart of the overhaul is a culinary program built around elevating meals travelers already recognize rather than chasing fussy reinvention. Working with outside culinary experts, Delta’s team rebuilt its recognizable classics with premium ingredients and more thoughtful presentation — a Delta One Wagyu beef burger, regionally inspired sea bass, elevated ice-cream sundaes, and a Champagne Taittinger sorbet pairing among the headliners. Every dish was engineered specifically to taste right at altitude, where the dry, pressurized cabin dulls the palate and defeats lesser menus.

The wine, and a bourbon first

The drinks list got the same treatment. Developed in partnership with Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson — one of only a handful of women to hold the title — the new wine program was curated to pair with the reimagined menu, with 13 final selections chosen from more than 1,600 wines evaluated across eleven winery partners, spanning Napa icons and global classics. The headline pour, though, is a spirit: Delta is now the first and only airline to serve Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon on board, the hand-crafted Kentucky icon with its famous horse-and-jockey stopper.

The design: down to the pepper grinder

Delta’s obsessiveness shows most in the objects. The new tableware collection — stamped with the iconic Delta widget — was developed through extensive research, custom prototypes and onboard testing, down to a bespoke pepper grinder and a single-serve saucier. Amenity kits from the Missoni “Winter Elsewhere” collection introduce a first-of-its-kind post-landing wrist strap and wellness essentials from brands like Grown Alchemist and Marvis, and a second Missoni cuddle pillow joins transoceanic flights for better rest. It is the kind of detail work — hundreds of small decisions — that separates a genuinely premium cabin from one that merely charges like one.

The service, and the people

For all the new menus and partnerships, Delta is adamant that the defining ingredient is still its people. The reimagined service threads in new, deliberately choreographed moments — a “sip and settle” welcome as you board, a fresh cracked-pepper service during the first course — meant to make the cabin feel cared-for rather than merely catered. It did not happen by accident: the program went through more than fourteen months of testing, thirty-six dedicated trial flights, and over two hundred rounds of feedback from employees and customers before it ever reached a paying traveler.

What’s next: the A350-1000 suite

The most consequential change is still ahead. Arriving in early 2027, the Airbus A350-1000 will carry an all-new, next-generation Delta One suite that Delta calls the most premium aircraft in its history — the product of more than 35,000 engineering hours, thousands of parts per seat, and over fifty suppliers across fifteen countries. Combined with refurbished A330 cabins already underway, it amounts to a widebody fleet transformation aimed squarely at resetting the benchmark for international premium travel. The food and wine are here now; the hardware is the next chapter.

Is it worth flying Delta One?

If you are weighing a premium-cabin ticket on a long-haul or transcontinental route, the reimagined Delta One makes a strong case — a genuinely considered meal, a serious wine and spirits list, thoughtful amenities, and a service style built around small human moments, with a best-in-class suite rolling out across the fleet. As with any airline product, the exact experience depends on the aircraft and route, so it is worth checking what’s flying your itinerary when you book. But as a statement of intent, the new Delta One is Delta telling premium travelers it intends to compete at the very top — and largely backing it up.
